ASTANA, April 27 (Sputnik) – The snap presidential elections held in Kazakhstan on Sunday were in full compliance with the law and were conducted in a transparent, democratic manner, Sergei Lebedev, who heads the CIS observation mission at the elections, announced on Monday.
"In our final report, we state that the elections were conducted in accordance with local laws, were open and transparent and fully complied with democratic principles," Lebedev said.
Earlier, Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission announced that according to preliminary counts, Incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev gathered 97.7 percent of the votes in Kazakhstan's Sunday elections.
Two other candidates, Kazakhstan's Communist Party functionary Turgun Syzdykov and the chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions Abelgazi Kusainov received 1.6 percent and 0.7 percent of the votes respectively.
According to the Central Election Commission, the voter turnout was 95.22 percent.
According to the Kazakhstan law, the Commission now has seven days to announce the final results of the presidential elections.
