The Moscow Maslenitsa gastronomic festival kicked off on 1 March in the Russian capital with folk concerts, thousands of master classes, free tours, and mountains of delicious pancakes that will stay in the city until 10 March.

The holiday Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) in Russia, also known as Pancake Week, is celebrated on the last week before Lent. The holiday marks the end of winter, symbolised by the burning of effigies, singing and dancing around a fire. People usually eat pancakes and dress in pre-revolutionary styles.
