The famous "Detsky Mir" toy store opened on March 31 in Moscow after a long period of reconstruction which began in summer 2008. More than 100 stores were open this day. The opening ceremony featured a festive concert and a light show.

© Sputnik / Evgeny BiyatovThe construction of the original "Detsky Mir" (Kids’ World) on Lubyanka Square in Moscow began in 1953. The building was designed by famous Soviet architect Alexei Dushkin. The store was officially opened on June 6, 1957.

In 2005 the building was listed as an object of cultural legacy of the Moscow region. On July 1 2008, "Detsky Mir" was closed for reconstruction.

During the reconstruction the inner volume of the atrium was kept, and the atrium was expended to seven floors. All the floors are available for customers now.
