    On the last day of the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russian skiers achieved a major success by winning gold, silver and bronze medals in the 50km race. Alexander Legkov took gold. Maxim Vylegzhanin and Ilia Chernousov placed second and third, respectively.

    The Russian national team set a national record for the total number of medals it won as well as in the number of gold medals. The team won 13 gold, 11 silver and nine bronze medals at the Sochi Olympics.
