The newborn boy is the Valuyev couple's third child. Sergei Valuyev has a brother Grisha and a sister Ira.

Nikolai Valuyev is the owner of numerous titles and nicknames. In honor of his outstanding physique (he is 2.13 meters tall, and according to figures from February 16, 2008, weighs 146 kg) in sporting circles Valuyev is known as the Russian Giant, the Beast from the East, Nikola Pitersky and Kolya-Kuvalda (Kolya the Sledgehammer).

When Valuyev joined United Russia and was elected a State Duma deputy, a special chair was made in parliament to accommodate the politician's giant frame.

Last year, Valuyev took part in an expedition to search for the Abominable Snowman. In September in a cave on Mount Shoria, the boxer found tracks which, according to local legend, belong to Big Foot, and he compared the tracks with his own: it turned out the boxer's feet were just slightly larger than those of the “the beast.”
Nikolai Valuyev never passes up the opportunity of taking a dip in an ice hole in winter.
Valuyev's brutal appearance is deceptive; he has a mild disposition and a great sense of humor.
The boxer's charisma has attracted the attention of many filmmakers over time. Nikolai Valuyev has appeared in seven films, in two of which he made cameo appearances.

Nikolai Valuyev shares secrets of his boxing success with the younger generation. In 2009, together with a group of trainers, he founded the Nikolai Valuyev School of Boxing, which has branches in St. Petersburg and in the Leningrad Region. Students at the school take part in and win various boxing contests as well as the youth boxing tournament, the Valuyev Cup, which has become a regular event in St. Petersburg.
