MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) A court in the Moscow Region on Monday sanctioned the arrest of another person in a recent high-profile beating case, the regional Investigative Committee’s spokeswoman, Irina Gumennaya, said.

Taking into account Monday’s court ruling, three suspected female attackers have been arrested so far.

Investigators said last Tuesday that a woman had been hospitalized with severe injuries following a brutal beating by a group of female attackers, some of whom were underage, in the Moscow Region's Naro-Fominsk District.

A statement by investigators said that on September 10, at about 10 p.m., “a group of eight young women, four of them underage, beat up a 21-year-old woman who has a disability. The attackers humiliated and insulted her, and filmed the attack on a cell phone.”

The woman was hospitalized early on September 11, with head and stomach injuries and a ruptured spleen that doctors had to remove, the statement said.

An investigation is underway into the incident, which has been classed as premeditated aggravated assault, an offense that carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

Seven suspected female attackers have been charged, and one is being treated as an eyewitness in the case after she said she had not taken part in the beating.
