The Czech Republic's president and interior minister called for an end to the country's participation in the European Union's refugee resettlement quota policy.

The Czech Republic may end its participation in the refugee resettlement quota plan on Wednesday, joining Poland, Slovakia and Hungary among countries, which rejected the plan from Brussels.

The calls took place after a group of 25 refugees from Iraq, granted asylum in the Czech Republic, attempted to flee the country for Germany. The refugees were detained on the Czech-German border by German police while attempting to cross into Germany on a bus, before being handed over to Czech authorities.
