Germany, Ukraine Agree Military Support Should Be Used in Compliance With UN Charter - Document

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Germany and Ukraine acknowledge that Berlin’s military support for Kiev will be used only in compliance with international norms and the UN Charter, according to a new security agreement between Berlin and Kiev signed on Friday.
"The Participants acknowledge that the military support provided by Germany will only be used in compliance with the United Nations Charter and in strict accordance with all relevant obligations for both Participants under international law," the agreement on security cooperation and long-term support between Germany and Ukraine said.
The agreement is valid for 10 years.

"Germany, working with its partners in the European Union and within the G7, aims to continue to pursue all lawful routes through which revenues from Russian assets can be used to support Ukraine, in accordance with European and international law," the agreement read.

Germany also vowed to support Ukraine in enhancing the resilience of its critical infrastructure, including energy infrastructure.
In addition, Berlin pledged to help Kiev to claim compensation from Russia for "the damages inflicted on Ukrainian territory."

Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that the two countries signed the agreement during Zelensky’s visit to Berlin.

In mid-January, Ukraine and the UK signed a 10-year security cooperation agreement in which London pledged to support Kiev throughout that period. French President Emmanuel Macron has also announced his intention to sign a similar agreement with Ukraine.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is regularly lambasted by opposition for neglecting interested of national economy while bandwagoning US foreign policy, especially in case of Ukraine. Earlier In January German business executives declared a “crisis of confidence” in acting government, adding that it was “failing on all fronts.”
