Military Parade Struts Across St. Petersburg to Mark Russian Navy Day

Subscribe
Every year, on the last Sunday of July, Russia celebrates the Navy Day. This holiday was established by presidential decree in 2006, but its tradition goes back centuries and is linked to the events of the Great Northern War when the Russian Navy was established.
From its inception as a bunch of wooden ships three centuries ago, today, the Russian Navy is a formidable and technically advanced flotilla with nuclear-capable strategic missile carriers and general-purpose naval forces. Russia's sea power consists of several geographically-based formations: the Northern Fleet, the Pacific Fleet, the Baltic Fleet, the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla.
Navy Day was marked by military parades in the port cities of Vladivostok and Baltyisk and with the principle naval parade held in St. Petersburg, which was attended by President Vladimir Putin and African heads of states.
