Leaking Our Way Into War, Prison Populations and US Economy Is a Tale of Two Cities

Congress reaches deal on $40 billion package for Ukraine. Biden says separate the two: ”We cannot afford a delay in this vital war effort. I am prepared to accept that these two measures move separately so that the Ukrainian aid bill can get to my desk right away.”

He is a former Washington Post bureau chief and award-winning foreign correspondent on two continents joins the conversation to break down the $40 billion package for Ukraine. Then they talk about news of a bimodal economy: while many Americans have benefited handsomely from a booming stock market and escalating real estate values over the past decade an increasing number of Americans are struggling to meet expenses.

And through the Sanctuary DMV, Mr. Shmueli has been providing on-call legal advice and has been welcoming and orienting immigrants arriving by bus in DC. Mark and the Misfits talk about Texas Governor Abbots’s campaign tactic of bussing migrants to DC in an effort to create chaos. Awful and sad but no chaos. Shmueli says that the Arizona governor is considering a similar strategy.

Jim Kavanagh, editor of The Polemicist joins the conversation to talk about the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post are reporting this morning that Disinformation Governance Board Chairman Nina Jankowicz in 2016 pushed the now-debunked claim that Donald Trump had ties to the Kremlin-linked Alfa Bank. Those were the same allegations made by Michael Sussman, the Clinton campaign lawyer who is charged with a felony for lying to the FBI. Then the Misfits talk about Capitol Hill staffers forming a labor union.

Paul Wright, Managing editor Prison Legal News and executive director of the Human Rights Defense Center meets up with the Misfits to discuss how the Justice Department is encouraging states to implement programs that include job training and basic education. But that hasn’t had any effect on the state of Alabama. More people are incarcerated there than ever before, violence is up and even prison guards are being arrested for everything from beating prisoners to smuggling contraband into prisons.

The Misfits close with a conversation about a new report about the climate crisis released on Tuesday. The world has a 50-50 chance of temporarily breaching 1.5 degrees of warming in the next five years.
