Moscow launched a special military operation in Ukraine in February to "demilitarise and de-Nazify" the country following an appeal from the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk for help in defending themselves against Ukrainian forces. In response, the West slapped multiple sanctions on Moscow.
Russian forces and the Donetsk militia are advancing in Donbass, pressing Ukrainian forces from the region. At the same time, Moscow and Kiev are trying to reach an agreement, as peace negotiations are expected to continue this week.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry, since the beginning of the operation, Russian troops have eliminated at least 386 Ukrainian UAVs, 1,918 tanks and armoured vehicles, 209 rocket launchers, and over 1,700 military vehicles.

US Nuclear Weapons Must Be Returned From Non-Nuclear Countries, Russian Deputy Envoy to UN Says
Russia calls for the return of US nuclear weapons from non-nuclear countries to US territory, the infrastructure for their deployment in Europe must be eliminated, Dmitry Polyanskiy, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, said at a meeting of the UN Disarmament Commission.

"In violation of the obligations under the NPT, American non-strategic nuclear weapons are retained on the territory of certain non-nuclear European countries, such weapons and their delivery means are being modernized, and NATO's so-called 'joint nuclear missions' continue, which assume the involvement of non-nuclear members of the alliance in training in the handling of nuclear weapons and their use," Polyanskiy said.

"It is necessary to stop this practice, return nuclear weapons to the national territory of their owner and eliminate the infrastructure for their deployment in Europe," he said.

AUKUS Provokes New Round of Arms Race, Russia's Deputy Envoy to UN Polyanskiy Says
The AUKUS (Australia, UK, US) military alliance creates prerequisites for the start of a new round of the arms race and does this not only in the Asia-Pacific region, Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said at a meeting of the UN Disarmament Commission.

"The situation around the establishment of the AUKUS partnership by Australia, Great Britain and the United States, including in terms of its negative impact on the nuclear non-proliferation regime, causes concern," Polyanskiy said.

"We believe this partnership provokes tension in the sphere of international security, forms prerequisites for the start of a new round of the arms race, and not only in the Asia-Pacific region," he said.

Russia Urges US to Abandon Plans to Deploy Ground-Based Missiles in APR, Polyanskiy Says
Russia calls on the United States to abandon plans to deploy ground-based intermediate- and shorter-range missiles in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said at a meeting of the UN Disarmament Commission.

"Let us recall that the Pentagon continues to implement decisions on the deployment of ground-based intermediate- and shorter-range missiles in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. We again urge Washington to show prudence and abandon such plans," Polyanskiy said.

He said the moratorium on deployment of Russia's ground-based missiles remains in force, adding that the future of the moratorium will depend on the build-up of forces close to Russia's Western borders and supply of Kiev with weapons by NATO.

Russia's Polyanskiy Rejects Possibility of Using Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine
Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy dismissed the possibility of using nuclear weapons in the situation with Ukraine.

"Contrary to speculations voiced today, Russia's use of nuclear potential is possible only in response to the use of nuclear and other types of WMD [weapons of mass destruction] against it and / or its allies or in the event of aggression against our country with the use of conventional weapons, when the very existence of the state is under threat,” Polyanskiy said at a meeting of the UN Disarmament Commission.

"These criteria can in no way be applied to the scenario currently unfolding in Ukraine. Moreover, Russia firmly adheres to the principle that there can be no winners in a nuclear war and it must not be unleashed," he said.

Polyanskiy said claims about the alleged possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine have no rational basis.

The United Kingdom currently has no plans to expel Russian diplomats, the Independent newspaper reported on Monday, citing an unnamed official.

The official said that there are few intelligence officers in the Embassy of Russia in London.

"A number of European partners have expelled Russian diplomats, principally intelligence officers.
