A criminal case has been brought against a student, who wounded two people at school and set the latter on fire on Wednesday morning.

A 17-year-old student committed a stabbing attack in a school in the city of Sterlitamak, located in Russia's Bashkortostan region, Head of Bashkortostan's Investigative Committee Svetlana Abramova said on Wednesday.

"According to the preliminary data, a 17-year-old student of a correctional class of a comprehensive school in Sterlitamak entered a computer room, where his classmates were present and cut a hand of one of the students with a knife. He also stabbed the teacher," Abramova said.

The student then went on to pour fuel in the room and set it on fire, stabbing himself afterward, the official added, noting that no one was injured in the fire.

After fire alarm went off, one of the frightened students jumped out of a window on the second floor. The attacker and those injured were hospitalized, according to Abramova.

A criminal case on an attempted murder of two or more people was launched against the teenager, according to the Russian Investigative Committee.

At the same time, another criminal case was launched over negligence committed by the agencies for juvenile crime prevention, according to the committee.

"It was established that earlier there were complaints to the prevention authorities about the aggressive behavior of the 17-year-old teenager," the Investigative Committee said in a statement, posted on the TamTam messenger.

The attacker is believed to be a follower of the Columbine High School massacre, his acquaintance told Sputnik.

"He said that he was mocked and bullied in school … He was a Columbine fan," the acquaintance said.

Recently, the cases of aggressive behavior exhibited by school students have been on the rise in various regions of Russia. Earlier this year, 15 people were injured in a scuffle in Perm, while six people were injured in the attack on a school in Ulan-Ude.
