The 15th Hwacheon Tomato Festival, an annual four-day tomato extravaganza, kicked off on August 4 in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province in South Korea.

Inspired by Spain's famous tomato fight festival La Tomatina, the South Korean tomato event features several contests, including a tomato battle, dancing in a tomato pool, tomato soccer, tomato treasure-hunting and other varied programs related to tomatoes. Every year over 100,000 people have participated in the festival. This year, 83 metric tons of culled tomatoes were delivered for the Hwacheon Tomato Festival.
