China Sees Next BRICS Summit as Way to Sum Up Experience of Organization

Beijing views the upcoming BRICS summit as an opportunity for summing up the successful experience of cooperation between the member states.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Beijing sees the next summit of the BRICS group, which is due to be held in China, as an opportunity to sum up a positive experience of the organization and to widen cooperation between the member states, China's Ambassador to Russia Li Hui told Sputnik in an interview.

"According to the scheme of the BRICS leaders' meetings, the next summit will be held in [China's southeastern city of] Xiamen in 2017. The Chinese side considers summit as an opportunity to sum up the successful experience of cooperation between the BRICS member states," Li said.

He added that the summit could also allow Beijing to shape the prospects of BRICS development and to widen the areas of cooperation.

BRICS is an association of five developing economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, which is aimed at enhancing cooperation in multiple spheres between the member states.

On October 15-16, the eighth annual BRICS summit took place in India’s Goa and was attended by all five leaders, who discussed a plan for cooperation in the near future as well as a wide range of political, economic and security issues during the event.
