President-elect Donald Trump has chosen his ambassador to Israel. David Freidman has worked as a bankruptcy lawyer for billionaires. Mr Friedman has called Jerusalem Israel’s “eternal capital.” But how will his appointment impact upon US policy vis-a-vis the Israel-Palestine conflict?
 
Earlier this week the House of Lords EU committee published a report warning of the risks to the Anglo-Irish peace process arising from Brexit and urging more focus on the implications for Ireland to avoid it becoming “collateral damage”. The ongoing success of the process hinges on whether a hard border would be introduced, but that also has implications for free movement and trade, so what are the options?
 
The latest round of declassified documents related to the US’ role in South America during the seventies and eighties, reveals a belief that Latin American nations actively wanted authoritarian governments, and paternalistic rule.  Later on, we’ll be looking at the legacy of the infamous project known as Operation Condor.
