MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Bulgaria’s parliament backed on Wednesday the resignation of Prime Minister Boiko Borisov’s government after his party’s electoral defeat.
"The National Assembly has approved the resignation of Boiko Borisov’s government by 218 votes against two abstentions," the parliament said in a statement.
14 November 2016, 07:02 GMT
The government tendered its resignation this Monday, a day after Tsetska Tsacheva, Assembly’s speaker and presidential candidate from Borisov’s center-right GERB party, was defeated in last Sunday’s vote by Socialist Roumen Radev.
The National Assembly announced that Borisov’s cabinet would continue performing its duties during the transition period to ensure continuity.
