MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Five largest Russian banks, which had been under cyberattacks for the past two days, managed to defend themselves, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia Sergey Shvetsov said Thursday.
"According to our information, all attacks were successfully repulsed. There were no significant disruption to the provision of services, to the client access to services," Shvetsov told Rossiya-24 broadcaster.
On Wednesday, a source close to the Bank of Russia said that at least five large Russian banks are being targeted by moderate-intensity cyberattacks since Tuesday. Russia's largest retail bank Sberbank later confirmed that it thwarted a powerful DDoS attack on its servers.
Bank of Russia's center for monitoring and responding to computer attacks in the financial sector (FinCERT) evaluated these attacks as medium.
