MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iran has shipped over 70,000 barrels of natural gas liquids to Pakistan, local media reported Tuesday.

The shipment of heavier gas products, consisting of 51,000 barrels of propane and 20,000 barrels of butane, was loaded from the Sirri refinery terminal located on the Persian gulf island of Sirri, the Mehr news agency reported, citing the Iranian Offshore Oil Company.

The Sirri refinery began operations in 2013 and has since boosted production to daily produce thousands of barrels of butane, propane as well as the rare pentane hydrocarbon, a chemical with many industrial applications that Iran's Persian Gulf neighbors have not been successful in producing.

India, Iran Poised to Strike Deal on Persian Gulf Farzad-B Gas Field in 3 Months
Iran has been boosting its energy exports ever since international sanctions were lifted in early 2016.

In July 2015, Iran signed an historic nuclear deal with the P5+1 group of mediators, comprising Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. Under the agreement, among other points, Tehran was obliged to cut back its uranium enrichment and decrease the number of centrifuges in the country. In exchange, the West was obliged to gradually lift sanctions imposed on the Islamic republic, enabling the resumption of exports and frozen energy projects.
