In 2015, MCC officially started the industrial production of MOX fuel for fast breeder reactor BN-800, working on the fourth energy block of Russia's Beloyarsk NPP.
"On our site it is possible to produce MOX fuel for other reactors, not only for the BN-800, [organizations] abroad are interested in these capabilities of ours," Gavrilov said on the sidelines of the the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) 60th General Conference in Vienna.
Rosatom is the world leader in technologies of construction and operation of fast reactors. Russia is the only country in the world with operating nuclear power units on fast breeder reactors of with industrial power capacities.
Fast breeders significantly expand the fuel base of the nuclear power industry, enabling it to provide reproducible nuclear fuel. In addition, it will be possible in future to reduce the volume of radioactive waste through burning hazardous radionuclides from spent nuclear fuel in fast breeders, softening the impact on the ecology.
