Italy’s right-wing opposition Lega Nord party will continue efforts to lift anti-Russia sanctions imposed by the European Union and to achieve the recognition of Crimea as a part of Russia, the party’s Tuscany region leader Claudio Borghi said.

ROME (Sputnik) – Earlier in May, the council of the Veneto region voted in support of a resolution urging the national government to condemn the European Union’s Crimea policy and work toward lifting the sanctions against Russia. According to Borghi, a similar resolution is currently discussed between Lega Nord and other parties represented in Tuscany’s regional government.

"In contrast to the Veneto, where such a resolution has already been adopted, and Liguria and Lombardy, where it will be voted on in the near future, our situation is somewhat more complicated and therefore our way is longer, but I hope that I will be able to convince our colleagues from other parties to support our resolution," Borghi told RIA Novosti, adding that Tuscan people are well aware of how much damage is done by the sanctions.

Lavrov: Moscow Considers Anti-Russia Sanctions an 'Opportunity'
The project of the resolution in the Tuscan government, aside from the eurosceptic Lega Nord, is currently supported by the center-right Forza Italia party, the politician said.

The vote on the proposed resolution may be held on June 21-22, Borghi added.

The reunification of Crimea with Russia and the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine in 2014 led to disagreements between Moscow and the West. As Brussels imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia, Moscow stroke back banning food export from the countries which supported anti-Russian policy.
