MUNICH (Sputnik) Russia is ready to continue constant political dialogue with Lebanon and provide necessary support, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

"We appreciate the opportunity to maintain constant political dialogue between our countries on the main issues in international politics, the situation in the region, as well as the state of affairs in Lebanon," Lavrov said ahead of a meeting with Lebanon's Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

"I would like to hear your assessment of what needs to be done and what the Russian side must do, we will be ready to provide help where this is possible," Lavrov added, addressing Salam.

The Russian diplomat stressed the importance of the Moscow-Beirut exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East.

Russia and Lebanon signed an economic and trade cooperation protocol in April 2015.

The countries expect to increase turnover and expand cooperation in the areas of energy, agriculture and pharmaceutics.

Mutual trade received a boost after the United States, the European Union and other western nations imposed sanctions against Russian defense, banking and energy sectors over the Ukrainian crisis in 2014.
