The Jordanian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Iranian ambassador to the country to express its condemnation of the recent attacks on Saudi Arabian diplomatic mission, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Sunday, protesters attacked the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and the country's General Consulate in Mashhad, following the Saturday execution of a prominent Shia cleric by Saudia Arabia.

According to the Petra news agency, Jordan is against Iranian interference in interior issues of Arabic countries, and condemns recent statements by the Iranian leadership which constitute an intrusion into Riyadh’s internal affairs.

The ambassador was told to convey Jordan’s position to Tehran, the media outlet said.

Riyadh announced on January 2 it had executed for alleged terror-related offenses a total of 47 people, including Shiite preacher Nimr al-Nimr. After the missions were attacked, Saudi Arabia broke off diplomatic ties with Iran.

Several other states, such as Sudan and Bahrain followed suit while the United Arab Emirates said it was downgrading its relations with Iran. Kuwait recalled its ambassador from the Iranian capital amid the row.
