"Russia supports further strengthening of India's role in solving global and regional issues. We consider that India, as a great power, conducting balanced and responsible foreign policy, is one of most worthy candidates for permanent membership at the UN Security Council," Putin said after a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On Wednesday, Modi, accompanied by a delegation of Indian businessmen, arrived in Moscow for a two-day visit to hold talks with Putin on a range of bilateral issues, including transport, trade, energy, and the economy. On Thursday, Russia and India have signed a package of agreements in different spheres.
Currently, India is a temporary member at the UN Security Council. New Delhi has repeatedly appealed for permanent membership.
