ZHENGZHOU (China) (Sputnik) – Russia supports the efforts of the Afghan government to combat terrorism and drug trafficking, however, forming a common anti-terror front against terrorism requires dropping ideological differences, the Russian prime minister said Tuesday.

"Russia backs the efforts of the government and people of Afghanistan for peace, for the revival of a stable, neutral, economically sustainable country, which would be free from extremism, drug-related crimes and other problems," Dmitry Medvedev stated at a meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government.

According to him, the terrorist aggression is fuelled by the spread of chaos and anarchy in the Middle East and North Africa.

"One can counter these challenges only through the formation of a common front against terrorism, leaving ideological differences aside," Medvedev stressed.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization stands for the intensification of the joint struggle of the international community against terrorist groups.

Medvedev: Common Rules in Global Economy Crucial Amid Partnerships Creation
In accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions, the SCO countries are implementing comprehensive measures stipulated by a 2016-2018 program of cooperation in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, the Russian prime minister specified.

"The upgrading of the SCO regional anti-terror structure will contribute to solving the issue of financing the creation of a secure telecommunication system between the SCO bodies," he outlined.

Medvedev also drew attention to the indivisibility of security, since it was impossible to guarantee one’s own safety, without caring about the others’ welfare.
