Daesh as well as disturbing situation in Afghanistan are an actual threat to international stability in the territory of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Terrorist activity by the Islamic State, known in the Arab world as Daesh and prohibited in Russia and other countries, as well as the complex situation in Afghanistan have created an actual threat to international stability in the territory of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov said Wednesday.

“Daesh terrorist activity in Europe and the complexity of the situation in Afghanistan will definitely lead to a spike in tensions and threats to the collective security of our organization’s member states in the areas of their obligations,” Semerikov said during a military committee session.

According to Semerikov, IS’s outright ‘total war’ has led to considerable human victims and destruction and has created a massive flow of refugees into Europe.

“This allows us to speak about the threat of a humanitarian catastrophe,” Semerikov added.
