MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The reduction in Russia-issued licenses for Turkish hauliers does not cover transit trucking, as yet, Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov said Wednesday.

"Indeed, we will cut by four times the number of so-called bilateral transport licenses. These decisions do not touch upon transit trucking, not yet," Sokolov said.

On Tuesday, the Russian government backed a proposal by President Vladimir Putin to impose economic restrictions on Turkey due to security concerns raised by the November 24 incident involving a Russian warplane.

The measures, due to take effect on January 1, 2016, include a ban on charter air travel between the two countries, directions to travel agencies not to sell tours to Russian citizens that involve visiting Turkey and restricts on the import of certain goods from Turkey.

The measures also target the activities of Turkish organizations in Russia and prohibit Russian employers from hiring Turkish nationals.
