Historic Treasures of Russia’s Leningrad Region Welcome European Tourists
“The Leningrad Region has a rich cultural heritage, numerous historical monuments, pieces of art and architecture, and unique natural ecosystems, which may be of interest to Polish tourists. In turn, Poland’s tourist potential should be of considerable interest for  the Leningrad Region,” the source said.

In the Leningrad Region, Polish tourists will be able to take advantage of inter-regional routes that are part of the Silver Necklace of Russia project, regional administration source noted. The joint project will focus on the tourist and recreational cluster in Staraya Ladoga and encompass the Ivangorod and Koporye fortresses, the Korela Fortress in Priozyorsk and the town of Tikhvin. The Silver Necklace offers various types of tourism, including cultural and educational tours and pilgrimages, which are popular among Polish tourists.

“At a meeting with the Polish delegation in June 2015, Deputy Governor Nikolai Yemelyanov said that enhancing tourism-related cooperation between the Leningrad Region and Poland should be a promising activity,” the source said.

The Silver Necklace of Russia is a tourist project across 11 regions of the Russian Federation.
According to Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko, the region expects to host two million tourists in 2016 and, at least, to double the number of visitors in the next 10 years.
