MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said on Monday that his visit to Russia signifies a resumption of negotiations on a peace treaty between Moscow and Tokyo, which hasn't been signed since the end of World War II.

"My current visit to Russia, in fact, has marked the resumption of stalled talks on the [WWII] peace treaty," Kishida said during a press conference after the meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"As for the future of the [Moscow-Tokyo] political dialogue, the parties confirmed the continuation of a direct dialogue between the heads of states and foreign ministers via international conferences and other events," the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
