MH17 Crush: The Tragedy That’s Still Dividing The World

One year after the Malaysian Boeing 777 was shot down over the skies of Eastern Ukraine, the world is split over who is guilty and whether there is way to bring those accountable for the tragedy to justice.

Earlier this month, Malaysia submitted a proposal to create an international tribunal to oversee the investigation, but Russia presented its own, rival draft that omitted that suggestion. Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said that it is not within the Security Council’s jurisdiction to deal with the issue, while Malaysia, Ukraine, Netherlands, Australia and Belgium disagreed in a joint statement.

While it’s not for sure, it looks like the US and UK will take their side, likely leading to an MH17 standoff at the UN.

Alexander Domrin, professor of law at the Higher School of Economics (studio guest), Dr. Roslyn Fuller, INSYTE Interdisciplinary Research Group, Waterford Institute of Technology (Ireland) and author of "International Law: An Irish Perspective" and Marc Susan, independent expert (Holland) joined us to discuss the issue.
