MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Even those countries that strongly supported anti-Russian sanctions implemented over Moscow’s alleged role in the Ukrainian internal crisis now realize that the measures do not work, Russia's permanent envoy to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said Monday.
There is no consensus regarding anti-Russia sanctions in the West, Chizhov said.
Since the Ukrainian conflict escalated in April 2014, the European Union, the United States and their allies have imposed a number of economic sanctions against Moscow, blaming it for interfering in Ukraine’s internal affairs.
The Kremlin has repeatedly denied its involvement in the Ukrainian internal conflict, adding that Western sanctions run counter to the principles of international law.
