UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Moscow hopes that the special High-Level Panel, established by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, will provide useful recommendations on UN peacekeeping, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monay.
"We hope that the special High-Level Panel established by the Secretary General will provide useful recommendations on how to make UN peacekeeping more efficient," Lavrov said at the UN Security Council open debate on international peace and security.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon established a High-level Independent Panel on UN Peace Operations on October 31, 2014.
The 17-member Panel, comprised of "distinguished individuals with experience in different fields" was tasked with making a comprehensive assessment of the current state and future needs of UN peace operations.
