MOSCOW, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - Latvia’s former Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis has been given one of the posts of European Commission’s Vice-President following an evening vote, European Parliament members said late on Wednesday in an announcement posted on Twitter.

Dombrovskis was voted in as Vice-President of the European Commission Euro and social dialogue at a closed European Parliament session, with 54 parliament members voting for and 37 against. He was taken in as a European parliamentarian with 73 affirmative and 25 negative votes.

At the same session, UK’s Jonathan Hill was confirmed as the EU commissioner for financial services, while Finland's Jyrki Katainen was approved as vice president of the European Commission in charge of employment and economic growth.

The European parliament also rejected Slovenia’s EU Commission nominee Alenka Bratusek. The Slovenian prime minister responded to the humiliating vote saying his government was upset with the parliament’s decision and was going to take two to three days to vet a new candidate.

The European Parliament will make its final say on the entire team heard on October 22.
