MOSCOW, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - An S-2T air tanker crashed in California while fighting the fire at Yosemite National Park, USA Today has reported.
"A plane went down" while battling a fire in the national park, ranger and spokesman for Yosemite National Park was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Investigators from the National Traffic Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were expected at the crash site early Wednesday, according to FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.
Gregor noted that pilot was reported to be the only person on board of the plane. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The fire at Yosemite National Park was reported around 2:45 p.m. local time (22:45 GMT) on Tuesday near the Foresta community in the western portion of the park. The fire burned estimated 130 acres in about two hours, according to federal and local officials.
Some 60 homes located in the Foresta area were evacuated.
