MOSCOW, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) expresses concern over the death of a Swiss Red Cross worker Laurent Etienne DuPasquier in Thursday's shelling of Donetsk, spokesperson for the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, Michael Bociurkiw, told RIA Novosti Thursday.

"We'll be looking into this very closely and reevaluating the security situation," Bociurkiw said. "We will report on this [issue] tomorrow," he said, adding that the OSCE will "do as much as possible to establish what happened."

Bociurkiv noted, that the OSCE is "very concerned" about the escalation of the situation in Ukraine.

"There's been too much bloodshed, and this is why we are calling for an immediate de-escalation for the bloodshed to end," he concluded.

On Thursday the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said that Swiss citizen DuPasquier was killed in heavy artillery bombardment of central Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

A RIA Novosti correspondent earlier reported that downtown Donetsk was targeted by mortar fire followed by shelling from Grad and Uragan multiple-launch rocket systems.

Ukraine has been engulfed in a violent internal conflict since mid-April, when Kiev began its military operation against independence supporters in the southeastern regions of the country. The conflict claimed the lives of more than 3,500 people, according to the UN.

The sides agreed on a ceasefire at a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine held in Minsk on September 5.

Since the establishment of the ceasefire regime, the conflicting sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the agreement. However, the OSCE stated that the truce was generally holding.
