Russia and Iran have spoken out for the idea of enhancing international efforts to combat terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

MOSCOW, August 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Iran have spoken out for the idea of enhancing international efforts to combat terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

“Regarding the creation of an international coalition against terrorism with the participation of Russia, Iran and other states, we have talked about it today. Russia and Iran accordingly, without any kind of double standards, speak for the establishment and increasing efficiency of efforts in combating international terrorism, which long ago became a threat to all countries in the region, and to the world’s security and stability in general,” Lavrov said after a joint press conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif in Moscow.

Lavrov stated that Russia is ready to cooperate “with everyone who shares these principles, who does not want to use the fight against terrorism in their own, lucrative interests; with everyone who does not differentiate between ‘good’ or ‘bad,’ ‘domestic’ and ‘foreign’ terrorists,” Lavrov added.

During the meeting, Lavrov and Zarif also discussed the final stage of resolving the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.

Both, Moscow and Tehran describe Russian-Iranian relations as based on the principles of friendship and consideration of each other’s interests.
