RIGA, August 17 (RIA Novosti) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Latvia on Monday, where she will discuss the situation in Ukraine with officials, the press service of the Latvian government said.
During the visit, Merkel will meet with Latvian President Andris Berzins and Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma.
Merkel visited Latvia in November 2006 and September 2010.
Latvia is among the countries targeted by Russia’s retaliatory sanctions on food and agriculture products. The one-year ban, announced on August 7, will include beef, pork, fish, poultry, fruits, vegetables, nuts, as well as cheese and other dairy from the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia and Norway.
On August 12, Prime Minster Laimdota Straujuma said the ban imposed by Russia will cost Latvia 55 million euros ($73.5 million) in losses.
