Moscow and Kiev have agreed on all the technical, fiscal and clearance procedures for processing Russia’s humanitarian convoy to be processed at the border, however security guarantees from both sides of the Ukrainian conflict are still missing, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation said Saturday.

DONETSK (Rostov region), August 16 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow and Kiev have agreed on all the technical, fiscal and clearance procedures for processing Russia’s humanitarian convoy to be processed at the border, however security guarantees from both sides of the Ukrainian conflict are still missing, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation said Saturday.

“While at this stage the technical, and the fiscal and the paper work procedures are all clear. Remains of course one major challenge,” Pascal Cuttat told journalists. “This challenge is that we absolutely need security guarantees from all parties concerned, before we start moving.”

“We are all ready, but are waiting for the parties to the conflict to tell us that the security guarantees are given to us in order to be able to move safely,” Cuttat reiterated.

He stressed that the trilateral meeting involving the border security and customs services from Russia and Ukraine, and the ICRC, held earlier in the day was quite fruitful.

“We have spent several hours in the presence of and with Ukrainian and Russian border guards and have made quite some progress,” Cuttat told journalists.

Earlier this week, Russia sent a humanitarian convoy to Ukraine of 280 trucks carrying about 2,000 tons of humanitarian aid, with 400 tons of grain, 100 tons of sugar, 62 tons of baby food, 54 tons of medication, 12,000 sleeping bags and 69 mobile electrical generators.
