The shelling of residential areas near Slaviansk has become the first change following the presidential election in Ukraine, Head of the Russian Duma’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Alexei Pushkov said Tuesday.

MOSCOW, May 27 (RIA Novosti) – The shelling of residential areas near Slaviansk has become the first change following the presidential election in Ukraine, Head of the Russian Duma’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Alexei Pushkov said Tuesday.

"The Ukrainian troops are firing more at the residential areas, than at the positions of the self-defense forces in Slaviansk. This is the first change since Poroshenko has been elected," Pushkov wrote on Twitter.

The presidential election in Ukraine took place on Sunday during a deep political crisis and a massive military operation conducted by the Kiev authorities against the self-defense supporters in the east of the country, resulting in civilian casualties. The leader of the presidential race, Petro Poroshenko, has taken 54.5 percent of the vote in Ukraine’s presidential election with 95 percent of ballots counted.

Previously, Poroshenko has supported the continuation of the special operation in the east of the country, noting that it should be shorter and more effective.
