MOSCOW, April 28 (RIA Novosti) – Britain is preparing to host a two-day summit later this week that will seek to track and recover Ukrainian assets allegedly stolen under the Yanukovych administration, Reuters says.
The Ukraine Forum on Asset Recovery, or UFAR, will be held in London on 29-30 April, the news agency reports. The meeting is to be organized jointly by the UK and the US, with US Attorney General Eric Holder coming to the UK capital to meet Ukraine’s acting Interior Minister Arsen Avakov.
The forum is expected to be attended by senior officials, analysts and regulators who will put their heads together to map out international guidelines for early tracking of stolen assets and money laundered by corporations.
The new Ukrainian regime claims billions of dollars were siphoned out of the country by the previous government, which was toppled as a result of the February coup. London said it had been handed a list of people allegedly implicated in stealing Ukrainian state-owned assets.
This comes on the heels of reports in Ukrainian media who claim that the US has allegedly assumed the custody of Ukraine’s gold reserves, which coup-imposed Prime Minister Yatsenyuk secretly took with him on his US trip in March.
