A court in Kazakhstan found the creator of an extremist group guilty of numerous terrorism-related charges Tuesday and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

MOSCOW, November 19 (RIA Novosti) – A court in Kazakhstan found the creator of an extremist group guilty of numerous terrorism-related charges Tuesday and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

The state-run Kazinform news agency reported Tuesday that 26-year-old Orynbasar Munatov, who was extradited from Pakistan earlier this year, was one of the founders and key members of the Soldiers of Khalifat extremist group.

The group was declared a terrorist organization by Kazakhstan in November 2011 after it claimed responsibility for explosions that rocked the country’s western city of Atyrau the previous month.

Two blasts took place near the city’s administration building, and one damaged a residential building near the local prosecutors’ office. No casualties were reported.

Munatov was found guilty in Atyrau of a number of crimes committed since 2009, including founding a terrorism group, financing extremist or terrorist activities and committing multiple acts of terror.
