Handling wild animals is not one of the requirements included in a bailiff's job description, but officials in Russia’s second city rose to the challenge when a wild boar unexpectedly paid them a visit.

ST. PETERSBURG, September 12 (RIA Novosti) – Handling wild animals is not one of the requirements included in a bailiff's job description, but officials in Russia’s second city rose to the challenge when a wild boar unexpectedly paid them a visit.

The porcine caller appeared at the bailiffs’ office in an industrial area in southwest St. Petersburg early Thursday morning, the service’s local branch reported.

The juvenile beast was scared and would not keep still, but the bailiffs lured it inside their office “to protect it from potentially aggressive elements in the environment,” the service said in a statement.

The boar was fed – also to mitigate the negative effects of the aggressive environment, according to the bailiffs – and handed over to veterinarians once it fell asleep after its meal, the report said. It remained unclear what had brought the wild boar to the city.

Russian bailiffs do come into occasional contact with the animal world, but mostly when they are forced to seize pets and livestock belonging to debtors. Examples have included two Sphynx cats, a Yorkshire Terrier, sheep, cows, a purebred stallion and – in the Novgorod Region in 2009 – 52,000 chickens.
