A court in Egypt has granted ex-President Hosni Mubarak’s appeal against his life sentence and ordered on Sunday a retrial of the ousted Egyptian leader on charges that he failed to prevent the deaths of protesters during the uprising against his regime.

CAIRO, January 13 (RIA Novosti) – A court in Egypt has granted ex-President Hosni Mubarak’s appeal against his life sentence and ordered on Sunday a retrial of the ousted Egyptian leader on charges that he failed to prevent the deaths of protesters during the uprising against his regime.

“The court has ruled to accept the appeal filed by the lawyers of Mubarak and former interior minister Habib al-Adli, also sentenced to life imprisonment, and review the case in a different court,” a court spokesman said.

Mubarak, 84, was overthrown in February 2011 after an 18-day popular uprising. He was sentenced in June 2012 to life imprisonment by an Egyptian court “for failure to stop the killing of protesters by the Egyptian security forces during the revolt.”

Over 800 people were killed and 6,000 injured during the revolt.
