Two more suspects have been detained as part of a criminal investigation into the May 6 unrest on Moscow's Bolotnaya Ploshchad during a demonstration, Russia's Investigative Committee said on Thursday on its website.

"The main directorate of the Investigative Committee is continuing a criminal investigation into the riots and violent acts against the authorities on May 6 at Bolotnaya Ploshchad," the Committee said.

Investigators named the suspects as Nikolai Kavkavsky and Alexei Polikhovich.

A court sanctioned Kavkazsky's arrest until September 25 on late Thursday and was set to rule on Polikhovich's placement in custody on Friday.

The demonstration took place on the eve of Vladimir Putin's inauguration as president.

Police said after the event over twenty officers had been injured by protesters armed with bottles and stones and three hospitalized. A spokeperson said charges of assaulting officers would be brought against a number of people, who could face up to ten years behind bars if found guilty.

A police spokesman said after the demonstration that 400 people were detained, most of whom were released soon after.
