Latvian journalist Leonids Jakobsons, hospitalized last week after an allegedly targeted assault on him, said he is concerned with the safety of his family, the Delfi web portal said.

Jakobsons, a journalist with investigative news portal Kompromat.lv, was attacked last Thursday near his house by two unknown suspects, who beat him up and then carved a triangle on his face using a knife.

The journalist, who had a surgery and was discharged from a hospital in Riga on Monday, said he was outraged after police told media that Jakobsons’ 9-year-old son was a witness to the attack and saw the assailants.

“Police has no right at all to say what he saw or did not see,” Jakobsons said.

The attack on Jakobsons drew a wide public attention in Latvia and Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis took personal control over the investigation into the assault.
