Michael Jackson’s personal physician Conrad Murray was found guilty on Monday of involuntary manslaughter in his patient’s death, CNN reported.

Jackson died at age 50 on June 25, 2009, at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest and going into a coma. The death was caused by "acute propofol intoxication" in combination with sedatives.

Murray, 58, gave the pop star the surgical anesthetic propofol to treat his insomnia almost each night of the last two months of his life, according to testimony.

Prosecutors had said the use of propofol, prescribed by Murray, was criminally negligent. The doctor had pleaded not guilty saying the singer delivered the fatal dose of the drug to himself. He now faces up to four years in prison.

The verdict followed some nine hours of jury deliberations, which began on Friday morning in the downtown Los Angeles County courthouse.
