Russia’s First Lady, Svetlana Medvedev, works the lace-making bobbins at the First International Lacemaking Fair in Vologda on June 23-25, 2011.
A Guinness world record was set on Friday for the largest lacemaking workshop, which was held in Vologda. Svetlana Medvedev was part of the world record.
The workshop included 570 lacemakers from various Russian regions as well as other countries who simultaneously demonstrated their craft on the main city square. The youngest lacemaker was only three years old while the oldest was 74.

Svetlana Medvedev met Vologda lacemakers and was presented with a lace shawl as a gift.

The First Lady also visited exhibits at the Lace Museum recently opened in Vologda.

A lacemaking competition, several exhibits, fashion shows and folk band performances were all part of the fair. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Russia’s Ministry of Culture supported the project.
