Leader of Russia's North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria Arsen Kanokov on Saturday called on the local residents not to yield to militant's provocations and render aid to law enforcers, his press service said.
Three groups of militants comprising up to 12 assailants attacked various law-enforcement buildings in Russia's North Caucasus city of Nalchik on Friday evening. One traffic policeman was injured in the shooting; the militants were able to escape.
"The latest events have yet again shown that the extremists do not want to back down their plans to break the life of our society," Kanokov said in a statement.
"The situation in the republic is remaining under control...But a part of the responsibility for the future of our country lies on each of us. That's why it is extremely important not to yield to the provocations of the thugs who want to embroil Kabardino-Balkaria in an abyss of civil conflict."
