Brazil's first female president, Dilma Rousseff, on Saturday officially took office, RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

The ruling Workers Party's candidate was elected Brazil's president November 1, after winning 55.49 percent of the vote.

The swearing-in ceremony was held in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. Over 800 people, including representatives of 55 countries, have visited the inauguration.

Brazil's former president, Lula de Silva, was first elected in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006. Under the Brazilian Constitution, the president can only be elected for two consecutive four-year terms.
