President Dmitry Medvedev signed a new law on security, he said at a Russian Security Council meeting on Tuesday.

President Dmitry Medvedev signed a new law on security, he said at a Russian Security Council meeting on Tuesday.

"This document replaces an earlier law and defines the list of threats to our country, as well as our methods of responding to these threats," Medvedev said, adding that the law was for the Security Council and law enforcement agencies.

"I proceed from the assumption that all those present here will be guided by it in their activity," he said at the meeting attended by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the leaders of both houses of parliament, presidential chief of staff, foreign, defense and interior ministers and other officials.

The Kremlin said Tuesday the previous law on security needed to be adjusted due to new challenges and threats and new problems in relations with other countries and international organizations.
