Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Wednesday instructed the country's government to assist Venezuela, which has recently suffered severe floods and mudslides, his press service said.

The disaster has so far killed 34 people and left thousands homeless.

"The head of the state instructed the government to hold a meeting of the Council of Ministers on December 9, study the scale of the disaster, define the volume and character of the necessary aid and outline a plan for the maximum assistance to brotherly Venezuela," the press service said.

The Belarusian leader on Wednesday called his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez and "expressed words of sincere support and solidarity with the Venezuelan people," Lukashenko's press service added.

Chaves told Lukashenko that his country urgently needs equipment and workers to help restore the ruined regions.
